Possum

Postby logo » Mon Oct 06, 2008 4:12 pm

i was wondering if there were any trappers in the SW area, We had a huge possum show up last week. Its huge in the body-nose to butt about 2". It just stands on the porch and wont go away. Now it looks like it has burrowed under the shed and my wife is afraid to go out there. Were in the fairborn area. If anyone might be interested in catching it let me know.

Hey Britt. How are you doing?

Is the critter foaming at the mouth or acting erratic?

Actually we have 4 feral cats we feed. thats when we 1st saw it. Since then we pull the food at 6 as it doesnt come around till dusk. Last nite the cats were looking for food and the possum was rooting around with them. noboday had a care in the world-just like lifelong friends. In fact 2 of the cats are babies. No mare than 6 weeks. i was afraid the possum might have a taste for kitten. We cant get close to the cats and the possum is out nose to nose w/them. Ah Mother natu
I was thinking of going to Dicks and gettting a med power pellet gun and thunk it a few times to see if it might make tracks. id be afraid of killing it. What could i do with all that rotting meat. Uts huge. its gotta weigh 25 lbs at least.

you might be able to get a hav-a-heart trap in your area to borrow from animal people, or rent real cheap. put the trap out with some apple, you'll get him. then take for a long ride, or a short ride with a gun.

Its gotta go. We went to get the mower out of the shed and it had bored thru the wall. When gloria opene the door it was standing right there.
Stan, whats the best place to check about borrowing or renting a trap. Would one of the big tool rental places carry it? The calls i made want over 300 bux just to remove the one(that include relocating).
Since i live out towards the country i hoped to find a guy who traps for sport and wants an easy, big varmint
Thanks for the help.

out towards the country?.............shoot him!!! call county, animal charity, etc. start somewhere you'll get the right number in time. tell them you see him during the day......rabies??? I have a cage it was about $50.00 or so 7 years ago, probably made in China now and cheaper.

Do not feed your cat at night, day only. do not leave food out. do not go out at night if he's there, again rabies, you don't know!!!

make some calls you'll get hooked up, and you can do it yourself, it's easy. when you get the trap, let me know for info on getting him first time.

He only comes out after 6pm sometime before dusk. As soon as it showed up we quit putting food out after 4. We still leave a water dish out. the dam thing ususally knocks it over rooting for food.
Our animal control doesnt catch wild animals or feral cats. All they do is cruise looking for stray dogs. We bought a new trash can. I was thinking of leaving it in the cage(if i caughtit) and the night before trash day, drown it in the cage and put it in the can under a bunch of trash.
Can i get in trouble for improper dispoal? I really dont want to put it in the car and move it. Im sure its infested with fleas. Also id be afraid of it trying to bit my hand thru the mesh of the cage when i carried it, Ive seen a trapped one hiss and spit before.
Again I hate those things.

there has to be some where you can borrow/rent a cage, keep trying. no gun? borrow that too, a .22 is perfect. also, check on poison, but that you have to be careful with.
