Crappie Fishing Red
Cross Bay Pymatuning
On the North end of Pymatuning, there is a bay called Red Cross Camp,
or Red Cross Bay as us younger ones call it. Its by far my
favorite spring Crappie Spot on the
entire Lake, There are lots of places to find some fish, but
this one is the best for peace & quiet.
This bay is like another lake back in the woods, it's on the PA side of the
lake,
just near the state line, it's fishable by water with an OH
license.
The mouth of the bay is in PA, and the body of the Bay is
in Ohio, so as long as your in a boat your fine. The bay only
reaches a maximum depth of 5 or 6 feet, and
it has lots of weeds and LOTS of stumps. This entire bay
including the entrance, is covered with stumps &
Lily's. From the lake the entrance to the bay looks like a
small creek, there is just enough room to get your
boat through the narrow neck of the creek mouth, you will
second guess even taking your boat back in
there, but its ok, you will make it providing the lakes up and
after you enter the mouth it opens up a bit
and you will even pass a primitive boat ramp on your right
hand side. I prefer to head into the middle of the
bay, and anchor quietly, Then rig some Bobbers up, with tiny
jigs tipped with minnows.

My wife enjoys using a beetle spin in this location also. The
nice thing about this bay, is no matter how
rough the lake is, the bay is flat and peaceful, And the
crappie swarm this bay every April. I like to fish
about 4' beneath a quill bobber and I cast the bait away from
the boat, If I don't get any action I will start
casting and moving the bait around. The key to this bay is the
deep water in the middle,
so I try to skirt around the middle without disturbing the
fish. You could spend HOURS working
this bay with an electric trolling motor. Next time your up at
Pymatuning in the spring Give Red
Cross Bay a try, you wont be disappointed.
Here is a map of the lake, Red cross bay is
in the center of the map at the very top, its marked.

I use a Frabill crappie checker for fast checking of my fish. who wants a ticket
for a short
fish not me. The things cost only about 5-7 dollars and its
well worth it.
